Where will Arts in the Burg live?
South Pittsburg, TN is a charming southern town with a rich history. Our community is located on the banks of the Tennessee River, nestled in the foot-hills of the South Cumberland mountains.
In days gone by, our town was vibrant with business and things to do. Like many rural communities, the advent of big-box retailers diminished our downtown business district. While there is still plenty of charm business continues to wane. Visitors will notice several vacant buildings and the occasional boarded window. This isn’t good for the community but it is a perfect opportunity for studio space.
Arts in the Burg will revitalize downtown South Pittsburg, TN by transforming empty spaces into vibrant and active working studio spaces as well as galleries and other creative venues. The studios will be open to the public so the artists can realize an income through sale of their work. It also creates community engagment opportunities that instill a since of ownership and pride.
The big picuture is to create an art district tourist destination for the region and most importantly to support emerging and established artists as they pursue careers as working artists.
Our Mission
Arts in the Burg provides working studio space, open to the public, that nurtures artists, promotes creative placemaking, as well as programming and entertainment to develop a unique travel destination in South Pittsburg, TN.
