Juried Process

For consideration as an Arts in the Burg Gallery Featured Artist please read the following and contact use with the requested information via email.

Each month we feature a local or regional artist in our gallery. We promote the artist on social media and create interest in the gallery through monthly events like indie movies, concerts and fundraiser. The gallery is also accessible to our weekly class students. Our goal is to help artists find avenues for success.

Being a featured artist in our gallery is a juried process. Not all who apply will be accepted. If you are not accepted we encourage you to continue to pursue your dreams… nothing ventured, nothing gained.

SUBJECT: Arts in the Burg Gallery – Featured Artist of the Month Information

Here are some details.

  1. Art must be ready to hang (Wire or other method that allows us to hang on hook)
  2. You provide a description list with a unique number for each piece and a title if you have one. The number should be written on the back of the piece.
  3. Include a price for each unique piece number (Example: #1 no title $50,  #2 “Creek Water” $675 and so on)
  4. Gallery commission is 25% Arts in the Burg and 75% to the artist after taxes and shipping (Shipping is typically $10 plus postage). This is much lower than most galleries (40% – 50%). Payout 30-days after the month ends. Price your pieces accordingly. If the piece normally sells for $100 you might list it ast $125 or even $135.
  5. You are responsible for reporting your income
  6. We will process the sales and provide you with your 75% about 30-days after the showing is over (typically end of month)
  7. All sold pieces remain in the gallery until the show is over
  8. We will hold a small gallery opening reception for each artist having enough pieces to fill the entire gallery. This is usually 10 to 25 pieces depending on the size of the piece
  9. If you don’t have enough pieces to fill the entire gallery we will pair you with a local artist(s) or an Arts in the Burg studio artist(s)
  10. We can schedule a date for art delivery as soon as you are ready
  11. We ask that you share our gallery posts announcing you as the monthly featured artist on your social media and invite your friends.
  12. Featured artists change on the first week of each month… (give or take a day or so… schedules)
  13. Artist will provide an artist Biography and Statement (Simple – See below)
  14. Artist will provide at list 4 quality images

Artist Biography and Statement. Each of the following bullet points should be brief – one or two sentences.

Include the following information in your artist biography:

  • Where you born and where did you live after that?
  • Where are you currently based?
  • What has been your artistic inspiration? Why?
  • What is your favorite medium? Do you use any special techniques?
  • Did you have formal art education or were you self-taught?
  • What art exhibitions have you been a part of?
  • Is your work in any collections?
  • Name any art organizations to which you belong

The artist biography should always be written in the “third person” (as an outsider looking in, and uses pronouns like “he”, “she”, “it”, or “they” in the biography).

However, an artist statement is different. Think of an artist statement as the artist communicating to the viewer about the art, in the artist’s absence.  Therefore, an artist statement should be short, concise and well written in conversational language.  The following recommendations will help an artist to write an effective artist statement.
