Our featured gallery artist for January 2022 is Ann Jackson. Ann is a Chattanooga ⁄ Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee based artist who works using several mediums including acrylic paint, photography, and graphic design. At the age of five she said she wanted to be an artist when she grew up, and has been making art in some form since. Ann has been a career graphic designer since age nineteen, working mostly in publishing and e-commerce but she recently began focusing on creating fine art.

In both Ann’s paintings and photography, the passage of time in relation to living organisms as well as inanimate objects is a common theme. Her paintings have recently began to move toward abstraction, but there are often still recognizable forms. The forms within her recent paintings include plants, fungi, or people at different stages in life; beginning, middle, and end. She also uses photography to document places such as rural Appalachia that may be nearing the end of their “life.” Many of the old buildings and Appalachian homes she photographed have now been torn down.
