DESCRIPTION:Tickets on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/contemporary-painting-with-becky-phelps-at-arts-in-the-burg-tickets-168614314955?ref=estw \nSaturday\, December 4\, 2021 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM – “Art Journaling to support well-being”. You will create sketchbook pages in this workshop and talk about the practice of sketchbook keeping and art journaling as a mental health and well-being practice in what often seems like a crazy world. \nYou’ll have a blast creating some contemporary art with Becky Phelps. With these abstract creations using acrylics\, spray paint\, tape\, soap\, and other unusual materials depending on the classes you choose… there are no mistakes. You’ll leave with a piece of art that is uniquely you. \nAbout contemporary art: Intended as a reaction to preceding modern art movements\, contemporary art is thought to have begun on the heels of Pop Art. In post-war Britain and America\, Pop Art was pioneered by artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. It is defined by an interest in portraying mass culture and reimagining commercial products as accessible art. \nBecky has adapted this art form in a way that is both joyful and fun! \nTEACHER \n“I have been creating art since I was a child. By the time I was in high school\, I knew I wanted to be an artist.” \nBecky Phelps attended MTSU and received my BFA in 1999. As a lifelong learner\, she returned to MTSU to earn a Bachelor of Science in Art Education in 2013. It has been Becky’s passion to teach Art Education and an honor to have served as a middle school and now high school art teacher. \nAs a professional artist\, Becky’s mission is to reach people. She wants her artwork to send a message of hope\, strength and courage to those who need it. Becky also wants her artwork to speak of joy\, peace and a little spray paint and a lot of sharpies! \nBe sure to follow her on Instagram! \nWe are very to have Becky Phelp’s unique brand of art as part of our offerings at Arts in the Burg. \nMaterials Provided \nClass Location: \nArts in the Burg\, 207 S. Leslie’s artistic focus moved from figurative oil painting to abstract acrylic painting while working as a school counselor at Signal Mountain Middle/High School for the past nine years. http://www.lesliesharpe.org/ \nLinda Kerlin\nOil/Acrylic – 2-d and 3-D Mixed Media – LOCAL Linda Kerlin is a multi-media\,multi-subject artist who uses her intuitive expression to create complex & colorful layered spaces. Her painting & sculpture draws from a mixture of her current surroundings & desires. Linda’s emotional uniqueness & spiritual reflection is felt through the reinvention\, & abstraction of these familiar places & remembrances. https://www.lindakerlin.com/ \nLindsey Johnson\nOil/Acrylic – Self-expression… one piece at a time. From my heart\, to your home. Fabby Chic Designs\, Creative Director https://www.facebook.com/FabbyChicDesigns \nLisa Swift\nOil/Acrylic  – Lisa Swift is a self taught artist from South Pittsburg\, Tennessee\, where she developed an eye for all things nature.  She moved to Sarasota\, FL in 1993\, where she continues to educate herself with the plentiful Master Artists’ Workshops\, within this thriving artists community. \nShe has exhibited in group and juried shows at Art Uptown Gallery\, Renaissance School of Art\, Art Center Sarasota\, Venice Art Center\, Manatee Art Center\, The Hub in Sarasota\, Florida\, and The Phillippi Mansion.  https://www.artbylisaswift.com/ \nLydia Randolph\nOil/Acrylic  –  Lydia is a full-time artist living in a remote area of north Alabama. She is inspired by Gauguin’s violent use of color\, Mary Cassatt’s delicate and precise renderings\, and Eakins’ honesty. Lydia paints things from my life\, relics and ruins of our dwindling agrarian society\, trucks and equipment left to grow into the weeds and trees.   https://www.lydiarandolphfineart.com/ \nMegan Gibson\nPrintmaking/Drawing – LOCAL – I was once asked what my favorite animal was during an interview years ago. The interviewer of course said his was a tiger. *eye roll* I\, completely missing the point of the question replied simply with my favorite animal. A mischievous\, thieving\, trash loving ball of fluff…. I didn’t get the job. https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=10222498025492619&set=a.1758627958715 \nMisty Ogle Semanco\nOil/Acrylic  –  I consider my artwork a marriage of linear and organic\, embracing calm and chaos. My focus is concentrated on shape\, color\, and texture. My current style of painting is impressionism\, but I often veer off to more of an expressionist style that displays and/or evokes emotion.  All of my current works are inspired by real places infused with dreams and imaginings. To see a place in person is only one way of looking at it; in my paintings\, I want people to see what they can’t in a live view. https://www.mistyogle.com/ \nStephen Pitts\nPrintmaking/Drawing – My drawings are all done by hand\, using Rapidiograph pens. I use a ruler and a compass to generate a pencil line grid. Once the grid is in place I then draw the designs in ink. The images are randomly generated and sometimes change significantly during the process of creating them. The drawings are created by drawing one symmetrical feature at a time\, much like growing a crystal.  https://symmetricaluniverse.com/ \nPeter Collery\nPhotography/Digital Art – Peter shows the color\, beauty and ever changing world we see all around us. He looks for the life\, vitality\, mystery and the real beauty that all people have ; the spirit of our nature.  https://petercolleryphotography.com/ \nRebecca Balch\nFiber/Leather –  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWlsfbVcZGo \nReiko-Rymer\nLive throwing and booth space \nCeramics – Reiko is a ceramic artist.
